Alan Augustson

Alan Augustson, MPP

Alan is a public policy analyst with specializations in emergency management and disaster response. He served on-contract to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, operating in the Information Management Cell of FEMA’s Response/Recovery Branch during and after Hurricane Katrina.

He has also worked with the National Opinion Research Center, the University of Illinois, the Government Finance Officers Association, the Illinois Chamber of Commerce, and the U.S. Census Bureau. He was named to the Issues Committee for the Barack Obama U.S. Senatorial campaign, specializing in military and veterans’ affairs.

He briefly explored a Presidential run with the Green Party in 2008, but later switched to run on the Green ticket for the Fifth Congressional District of Illinois.

Alan is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and a former firefighter and medic. He holds a BA in Anthropology from the University of New Mexico, and a Master of Public Policy from the University of Chicago’s Harris School. Today he lives in New Mexico. He has a wife, Kimberly; a daughter, Nova; and two very demanding cats.
