In an April 2nd notice to the Federal Register, the Army Corps of Engineers reported that “the global incidence of sea level rise” will render useless the upgrades to New Orleans’s levee system as early as 2023.* That’s $14 Billion worth of upgrades that I personally helped fight for, as a consultant to FEMA during and after Katrina.
To those of you who scoff at catastrophic climate change every time a snowflake falls: you’re either liars, or unbelievably gullible. And I don’t have to care which anymore.
Congress will never pass meaningful legislation to address the root cause of climate change — runaway industrialization — because their power directly derives from it. As President, I will declare a state of emergency to immediately begin the conversion to a sustainable economy with a worker-owned, renewably-powered production base.
A lot of people aren’t going to like it. Americans fear inconvenience and loss of status more than death. I don’t care. Your great-grandchildren will have a livable world for it.
