I grew up in Chesapeake and Virginia Beach, and my mom and daughter still live there. I was sick inside when I got the news of yesterday’s mass murder, and scrambled to the phone to check on them. They were safe, but a dozen or so families are now robbed of a member’s life…
I was sickened yet again at the predictable outpouring of “thoughts n’ prayers” to the victims and their families. Why is no one demanding any real action?
I believe in the right of self-defense, and yes, full disclosure, I own firearms. But Virginia has some of the most lax gun-ownership laws in this country, and is a major part of this obscene worship, idolizing and even fetishizing of guns. How many senseless killings does it take before we can finally have a meaningful, nationwide discussion on gun control?
I offer my heartfelt sorrow to the families of the victims of the Virginia Beach murders, and my hope that we can finally begin creating a country where such things never happen again.
