Hard and unpopular decisions

After much deliberation I have decided that, if elected, I will seek the death penalty for the current President of the United States.

The Green Party is opposed to capital punishment, as am I for the most part. But my own opposition is mainly based on its unfair and unjust application throughout modern history. In this case, I sincerely feel that justice demands a life.

  • Donald Trump is a dangerous, unrepentant, predatory criminal whose actions have cost lives, and are likely to cost many more before he is brought to justice. He is a certain flight risk and has little to no hope of real rehabilitation. He commands significant personal resources and is likely to continue to do serious harm to humanity even while incarcerated. While alive, he is a danger to all.
  • Trump is guilty of war crimes, unprovoked international aggression, crimes against humanity and other charges. If tried by the International Criminal Court (of which I am an advocate), Trump would die. We must send a message to the world that it is no longer “okay if we do it”.
  • Even under domestic law, the least of Trump’s atrocities, if committed by a low-income black man, would earn him the death penalty. America desperately needs to see the lie of “justice for all” made true.

My position on this issue may be unpopular within the Green Party, which is understandable. In the primary elections, Green voters deserve to fully understand the full range of positions of their candidates; therefore, I make this policy statement openly.

Thank you.
