Here’s a shoutout to all Bernie Sanders supporters. First of all, thank you for being awake and aware enough to know the predicament we’re in. Our economic meltdown, the erosion of our freedoms and the coming environmental collapse are linked. They cannot be addressed separately and you seem to have a politician who ‘gets it’.
Because you are awake and aware, there are some current developments that cannot have escaped you.
First, the field of Democratic candidates is expanding. As of this writing, I think you’re up to 21? With each new entry, the needle swings closer to its business-as-usual position, just barely to the left of the Right.
Secondly, Bernie’s message is getting more and more marginalized by the day. Even left-of-center media such as The Nation are wringing their hands over the apparent presumptive-candidate status of Joe Biden, as if we were already back to voting the lesser of two evils before the primaries even begin.
Thirdly, Bernie’s getting no mainstream media play at all. Yes, he’s built up a massive campaign fund, and good on him. But his dollar’s no good anywhere. Visit a campaign funding resource like opensecrets.org. Look at the contribution records of the media conglomerates who control political discourse. They backed Hillary, except for a few who backed both Hillary and Trump.
Lastly, one word: superdelegates.
You need a ‘Plan B’.
You’re intelligent people. You see the pieces falling into place. You see the framework already built for the torpedoing of Bernie Sanders’s campaign, popular vote be damned. Aren’t you feeling a little used yet? Surely it’s dawning on you by now: the DNC isn’t listening, or at least, not to you.
By all means, cast your primary vote for Bernie. But when (sorry) he’s played his part and Lesser Evil presumes to own your vote… take a quick look over this way. Someone’s still listening. Someone still has a plan: the real Green New Deal, not the gelded version that the Democrats played with for five minutes (like we did the metric system in the 1970s).
We’re not running to ‘spoil’ anything — at least, not for anyone who doesn’t richly deserve a spoiling. We’re not running to send a message, or to raise awareness, or to promote freedom of choice; although all those things are important.
The Green Party is running to win in 2020, because we know that nothing changes if we don’t. Your vote still counts.
